Embedded Multiple Microcontroller Solution
OVERVIEW
A new approach to electronic system design applied to casino
and coin-operated machines.
Traditional systems for casino and coin-operated machines use
a central microprocessor to manage the whole machine. Later
systems use a more powerful processor running more complicated
operating systems, with many Pentium-style processors now installed.
Most systems use an additional, custom logic device to enforce
security.
The EMMS system takes quite a different approach and relies
upon microcontrollers rather than microprocessors. These microcontrollers
are much simpler and cheaper devices but display a range of
advantages over microprocessors. The EMMS system divides the
management of the machine into distinct tasks and allocates
a microcontroller to each task. The result is an array of microcontrollers
working in concert to achieve a complete casino or coin-operated
system.
